TACLOBAN CITY – One hundred eleven (111) Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers of the local government units and academe in the region gathered on January 25-26, 2017 at the Oriental Hotel, Tacloban City for the annual PESO Congress organized by the Department of Labor and Employment in region 8.
The said event was an opportunity for the PESO Managers to acquire additional knowledge on the latest laws and policy issuances in line with the programs they implement, and to renew their commitment to serving their constituents in the area of employment facilitation and generation.
DOLE Regional Director Elias A. Cayanong said is his inspirational message that it is but fitting to recognize the efforts of the PESO Managers in bringing the labor and employment programs of the government to their intended constituents.
“Today, our PESO Managers in the region take the center stage as we recognize their contribution in the delivery of employment programs to their people, thus we have bestowed numerous awards to the best PESO in each province,” Director Cayanong said.
During the congress, the DOLE has also released P5,000.00 each to 111 PESO Managers as incentive for being proactive in the performance of their core functions, and for regularly submitting reports to the DOLE.
The PESO is a non-fee charging multi-employment service facility that extends assistance to jobseekers in exploring employment opportunities and to prospective employers in search of manpower. It is also an information hub on labor market and employment program.
The DOLE programs implemented by the PESOs include Jobs Fair, PhilJobnet, Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES), Tulong Alalay sa Taong may Kapansanan (TULAY), Kasanayan at Hanapbuhay Program (KASH), Community Based Employment Program, and Integrated Livelihood Program for the Informal Sector.
