OSSCO-Region 8 found its new home


Tacloban City – The new One Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO) for Region 8 located at 2nd floor of New Bus Terminal, this city, was inaugurated last October 20, 2018.

The inauguration was graced by the presence of DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III who was in Tacloban that day for the inauguration of the newly-renovated office of DOLE RO8. Also present were DOLE RO8 Director Yahya A. Centi and Ms. Teofila Brosas who represented Tacloban City Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez.

Secretary Bello congratulated DOLE RO8 and all the partner agencies for finally having a permanent place for the OSSCO. He emphasized on the mandate of the current administration relative to provision of efficient services to the OFWs.

 As we all know, our OFWs are our modern day heroes for their significant contribution to the Philippine economy. They bring huge amount of money through their remittances and so it is just fitting that we give them excellent services when they are home to facilitate their documents. With this new space that LGU-Tacloban provided, I believe our OFWs can expect effective and efficient services from the government,” Secretary Bello said.

Director Centi thanked the city government of Tacloban through the leadership of Honorable Cristina G. Romualdez for its generosity to the programs and services of DOLE.

I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our dear Mayor of Tacloban City, Honorable Cristina G. Romualdez for being so accommodating to us. There will be no inauguration in the first place if not for the kind consideration of the LGU-Tacloban of our request. May our partnership be ever stronger in our future endeavors,” said Director Centi.

Director Centi likewise acknowledged the support and cooperation of all the government agencies involved in the success of the re-launching of OSSCO in Eastern Visayas. The following government agencies are part of the OSSCO operations: Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), PHILHEALTH, Bureau of Immigration (BI), Pag-ibig Fund, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Social Security System (SSS), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).

Ms. Brosas relayed to Secretary Bello and Director Centi the message of the good city mayor Romualdez. She said “The city government of Tacloban will continue to be a partner of DOLE knowing it is the people of Eastern Visayas especially Tacloban who benefits from all these programs and services”.

he first OSSCO for Region 8 was launched last September 5, 2016 and was housed in the ground floor of DOLE Regional Office 8. With the re-launching of OSSCO Region 8, OFWs can now transact and process again their documents in just one place.
