Secretary Bello inaugurates newly-renovated DOLE RO8 office


Tacloban City – No less than DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III inaugurated the newly-renovated DOLE Regional Office 8 last Saturday morning, October 20, 2018 at Trece Martires Street, Tacloban City.

Officials and employees of DOLE RO8 led by Director Yahya A. Centi together with the DOLE regional coordinating committee (RCC) members gathered as early as 6:30 AM at the office for a thanksgiving mass and blessing of the building.

Secretary Bello and Director Centi unveiled the commemorative plaque showing the brief history of DOLE RO8 office. It was then followed by a simple program where Director Centi expressed his heartfelt thanks to Secretary Bello for gracing the occasion.

I’d like to extend my profound gratitude to Secretary Bello for finding time for this historic inauguration. I called it historic because aside from the commemoration of the 74th Leyte Gulf Landing, today also is the landing of Secretary Bello in Region 8 for our inauguration.”, said Director Centi.

Secretary Bello, in his keynote speech congratulated Region 8 for having a beautiful office and expressed his admiration to DOLE RO8 for its resiliency in facing all the challenges it encountered especially during the Yolanda times.

Indeed, today is harvest time. A time to reap the fruits of concerted efforts and labor. This building will be a long lasting reminder of how strong and determined the people of this region is. It symbolizes the undying commitment and dedication of men and women of DOLE to surpass huge challenges, just like how this building overcame the test of storms”, said Secretary Bello.

One of the highlights of the program was the MOA signing between DOLE Region 8 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines which sought to strengthen the partnership of DOLE and AFP in advocating the DOLE programs and services to the grassroots level. Major General Raul M. Farnacio, Commander of the 8 Infantry Division of the Philippine Army was present together with Brigadier General Alex D. Luna from the 801st Infantry Brigade and Brigadier General Lope Dagoy from 802nd Infantry Brigade.

Livelihood grants and assistance were likewise awarded to different beneficiaries during the program. A total of P 3,858,543.00 livelihood grants were released by DOLE RO8 to LGU-Hilongos, Leyte, LGU-Lapaz, Leyte, LGU-Tabontabon, Leyte and LGU-Tacloban City benefitting more than 200 beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, DOLE RO8 attached agencies, the Employees Compensation Commission and National Reintegration Center for OFWS (NRCO), , likewise awarded livelihood grants and cash assistance and teaching kits to their respective beneficiaries. A total of P400,000.00 worth of grants, cash assistance and teaching kits were turned-over to 20 workers, soldiers who were wounded-in-action and teachers who were former OFWs.

Atty. Cecilio I. Baleña, OIC-Assistant Regional Director, delivered the closing message and thanked everyone for being instrumental in the success of not just the inauguration but also for the usual support in the implementation and delivery of DOLE programs and services to the people of Eastern Visayas.
