DOLE releases over 10M livelihood, emergency employment assistance

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII has released a total of P10,900,760.00 livelihood assistance benefitting some five hundred ninety-three (593) beneficiaries coming from the different municipalities of Eastern Visayas last January 22, 2019 held at DOLE RO8 Training Center, Trece Martires Street, this city.

Said amount covered fifteen (15) approved livelihood projects and emergency employment assistance submitted by eleven (11) Accredited Co-Partners of DOLE. Among these ACPs were LGU-Hilongos, LGU-Bato, LGU-Merida and LGU-Palompon from West Leyte, LGU-Sogod of Southern Leyte and LGU-Naval of Biliran.

The turnover ceremony was graced with the presence of Regional Director Yahya A. Centi, OIC-ARD Atty. Cecilio I. Baleña and heads of the provincial field offices of DOLE Region VIII.

Director Centi, in his message, committed to continually help the Eastern Visayas develop through the provision of livelihood and emergency employment assistance.

“As your Regional Director, I will see to it that DOLE will remain to be your reliable partner in improving the lives of the people of this region. We are serious in fulfilling our mandate to help alleviate poverty through our programs and services”, said Centi.

The recipients of the grants were thankful to the department for the assistance received.

Mayor Ramon C. Oñate of Palompon, Leyte expressed his gratitude for the 1.3 million funds received for its two (2) projects intended to boost tourism in his municipality and even recalled how DOLE helped them after super typhoon Yolanda hit the region in 2013.

“LGU-Palompon is grateful to DOLE for all the assistance we receive. I cannot forget how DOLE helped us recover during Yolanda times in 2013. Thank you Sir Centi for giving priority to helping LGUs like us in your program implementations. Rest assured that we will really utilize the funds for its purpose”, Mayor Oñate said.

Vice-Mayor Rufo Olo of Sogod, Southern Leyte likewise took the chance to appreciate the efforts of DOLE in bringing its programs to the different municipalities of Region 8.

“My sincerest thanks and appreciation to DOLE for the livelihood grants we receive today for our people in Sogod. You know, these funds will really help us in terms of improving the lives of our farmers and other informal sector workers.” Vice-Mayor Olo said.

OIC-ARD Atty. Cecilio I. Baleña in his closing remarks gave the beneficiaries gentle reminders for the assistance received.

“We are happy to see your smiling faces today as you received your respective livelihood. And we will be happier if you will take good care of these so that it will go a long way for you and your families. And to our partner LGUs, we hope you will work on the liquidation of these grants immediately for you to avail again of our livelihood program”, said Atty. Baleña.

LGU-Merida, Leyte received a total of P3,340,000 grants for its Diversified Livelihood Formation Projects and Buy & Sell of Frozen Food Project while LGU-Naval, Biliran received P2,187,000 for its Spareparts Retail, Mobile Vulcanizing & Tricycle Sidecar Fabrication Project, Drift Gillnet Fishing Project and Restoration of Mat Weaving Project. #
