DOLE ROVIII celebrates Women’s Month

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII celebrates this year’s women’s month with series of activities on March 18, 2019 at the DOLE Training Center, this city.

With the theme “We make change work for women”, officials and employees of DOLE ROVIII gathered for a special program after the flag-raising ceremony last Monday.

To apprise the DOLE ROVIII of the status of women in the region, Regional Director Yahya A. Centi invited a resource speaker from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office VIII in the person of Ms. Zonia C. Salazar, Supervising Statistical Specialist.

“I really wanted all employees especially the women to know their worth in this society. With the expertise of PSA, I know we will all know of the significant contributions of women in Region VIII.

Ms. Salazar, who shared on the topic “The Situation of Women and Men in Eastern Visayas”, said that even though it’s women’s month, they still included the men’s side just to give the whole picture of the story and for the information of all participants.

After the discussion, all employees’ attention were even stirred up as invited speakers from the Philippine National Police, SPO3 Serafin C. Noya, Jr. and SPO3 Victorio C. Martinez, gave an orientation on Basic Self Defense. Everyone got interested and enthusiastic in learning some of the actual basic self defense which as emphasized by the speakers are very helpful especially to the women.

The program ended with a message form OIC-ARD, Atty. Cecilio I. Balena who expressed thanks to the resource persons on behalf of Director Centi who was attending an equally significant activity. He likewise added that women are precious gift of God to men and society.

“Our women of today indeed are equally talented as men. They deserve nothing but the utmost respect and recognition for all their accomplishments and contributions,” said Atty. Baleña.

DOLE ROVIII also holds zumba fitness activity every Friday which was launched last March 18, 2019, coinciding with the women’s month celebration.#
