DOLE ROVIII announces activities for 2019 Labor Day

In a meeting with the DOLE VIII Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC) last April 10, 2019 at the DOLE RO VIII Training Center, DOLE ROVIII Director Yahya A. Centi happily announced in his opening statement that this year’s commemoration of Labor Day would be a month-long one. He said that the whole month of May will be dedicated to the hardworking men and women of Eastern Visayas.

“Under my leadership, I will see to it that we are giving our workers (including ourselves) due honor not just only on May 1. We all deserve to celebrate for being part of the workforce that builds our economy”, said Director Centi.

DOLE ROVIII OIC-Assistant Regional Director, Atty. Cecilio I. Baleña, reported during the meeting the activities to be undertaken for this year’s Labor Day.

“We would like to inform you all that we have already finalized our Labor Day activities on May 1 and we enjoin all of you to partake and be one with us in the celebratory activities”, said Atty. Baleña.

Prior to the Commemorative Program and Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK), which will be held at the Tacloban Convention Center, the celebration, will be kicked-off with a Eucharistic Mass at the Sto. Niño Church at 5:30 AM, followed by a Motorcade at 7:00AM to be joined by different agencies and organizations.

Not less than fifty (50) local and overseas employers are expected to participate and bring in more or less three thousand (3,000) job vacancies during the Job Fair which has always been the highlight of the annual celebration.

A livelihood fair showcasing the various products of the different DOLE-assisted workers’ associations in the region will also be done simultaneously with the job fair at the same venue.

This year’s celebration will be unique, as activities will also be conducted at the provincial field offices. Aside from the simultaneous Labor Day celebration in Ormoc City on May 1, there will also be separate celebrations to be held in Maasin, Catarman, Borongan and Biliran on May 10, 17, 24 and 31, respectively.

To raise the level of awareness of the public about the Labor Day Celebration and encourage them to participate, a Press Conference will be held on April 29, 2019 at the DOLE RO VIII Training Center. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
