With the theme “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino”, the 117th Labor Day celebration in Tacloban kicked-off with a Eucharistic Mass at Sto. Niño Church followed by a motorcade from the church to Tacloban Convention Center in Sagkahan. More than seventy (70) government agencies and private establishments joined the motorcade to show support in commemorating the special day for all workers.

A commemorative program was held prior to the conduct of the Job and Livelihood Fair. Present to grace the activity were Ms. Teofila Brosas, Ph.D., representing Tacloban City Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez, Atty. Miguel Tezon representing the labor sector, Atty. Ryan Mancera representing the management sector, and Director Celerina Bato from the Department of Trade and Industry.

Habang ako ay umaasenso, mas lalo po akong nakakatulong sa aking mga empleyado,” Atty. Mancera said.

DOLE Region VIII Director Yahya A. Centi, who was on top of all the preparations sincerely thanked everyone for sparing time to pay tribute to the workers of Eastern Visayas.

“May 1 is a holiday and most people are taking the chance to spend the day with their loved ones, but all of you spared your precious time to join this simple tribute to our hardworking men and women of Eastern Visayas. For that, we are very much thankful and motivated”, said Dir. Centi in his closing remarks.
