For sustainable partnership, DOLE RD visits Tolosa

TACLOBAN CITY - After several visits to different municipalities in Eastern Visayas, Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII Director Yahya A. Centi, together with Ms. Bernardita M. Navarra, Chief of DOLE-North Leyte Field Office, set foot in the town of Tolosa, Leyte, last September 10, 2019, headed by the amiable Mayor Maria Ofelia Alcantara.

Aiming for a continuous strengthening of  DOLE-LGU collaboration, the local chief executive presented her thoughts on how both parties can contribute to the further development of the municipality in terms of programs provided by the Department specifically on livelihood.

“It is an honor to be visited by a DOLE Director. Not all Mayors have the privilege to be visited by the Regional Director. It is a great initiative for a Director to go out to his constituents and actually hear straight from them their issues and concerns” said Hon. Alcantara.

During the said meeting, Hon. Alcantara suggested different ways to maximize the grants provided by the Department through its livelihood programs.

“I plan to create a Trade Center which will showcase every Friday the different products of Tolosa such as bibingka, moron and other food specialties made by the locals themselves” added by Hon. Alcantara.

Focusing on her advocacy “Skills Development Gearing Towards Work”, she is planning to create organizations for livelihood beneficiaries such as Labandera Group and Kakanin Group.

Mayor Alcantara likewise expressed her eagerness to help the youth in the development of their skills. The youth of the municipality have been showcasing their talents in painting which according to the Mayor would be a great asset to the municipality when it is enhanced.

On the other hand, Director Centi gave his views on what impedes the development of the country.

“The problem of the country is not corruption; it is the lack of love for the country”, said Director Centi.

The good director expressed his support to the aspirations of the Mayor as well as the PESO Manager of the said municipality.

After the meeting, the local chief executive took her time to tour her visitors to the different landmarks located within the municipality. Places visited include the mausoleum of the Romualdez and Marcos families as well as the former station of the cross located at the Marcos’ property.
