P2.9M DOLE assistance awarded to LGU-Baybay

TACLOBAN CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII through its West Leyte Field Office has awarded a total of 2,998,900.00 livelihood and emergency employment assistance to the Local Government Unit of Baybay on November 18, 2019 at the Baybay City Gymnasium.

Of the total amount, P1,994,400 will be used for the implementation of two livelihood projects while the remaining 1,004,500 will be utilized for the implementation of emergency employment program. Some three hundred twenty-two (322) residents of Baybay will be benefitting from the said funds.  

Present to grace the event were Hon. Carl Nicolas C. Cari, Congressman of the 5th District of Leyte, Mr. Edgar Tabuyan, DOLE-WLFO Head, Mr. Degracias E. Pernitez, City Administrator, Hon. Ernesto Butawan, Vice-Mayor of LGU Baybay, and Mr. Marianito Gorgonio, PESO Manager of Baybay City. Also present during the event were the beneficiaries of the associations.

Cong. Cari was very happy and delighted for the support provided by the Department. 

“We are blessed to personally be visited by the DOLE Director. Not everyone is given the chance to be part of this program. This is definitely an early Christmas gift to all the beneficiaries. I am hoping that this will not be wasted,” he said.

Director Yahya A. Centi extended his support to the Local Government Unit of Baybay.

“We will continue to do the best we can to support the LGU of Baybay in all their advocacies. We want the beneficiaries to make good use of the money given by the Department,” said Dir. Centi.

The approved projects of the LGU are as follows: Provision of Tools and Equipment of Baybay Jackfruit Growers with 56 beneficiaries amounting to Php 997,200.00; Cacao Production with 70 beneficiaries amounting to Php997,200.00; and Clean up drives, declogging of canals and sewerages, repair and rehabilitation of structures of agricultural facilities of 16 barangays with 196 beneficiaries amounting to Php1,004,500.00.
