DOLE-RO VIII conducts Labor Laws 101 for personnel

Tacloban City – In order to capacitate its workforce on different labor laws, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII through its Technical Support Services Division, conducted a training/orientation for its first batch of employees last February 27-28, 2020 at the DOLE Training Center, this city.

The in-house training dubbed as “Labor Laws 101 for DOLE Personnel on GLS, OSHS and Other Laws” was attended by thirty-five(35) employees of the office.

In his opening remarks, Regional Director Yahya A. Centi who was the author of the said training, urged all the participants to never stop learning. He likewise advised them to listen attentively to the speakers in order to achieve the intended purpose of the training.

“As your Regional Director, I encourage all of you to learn more. Never stop learning. Like what Leonardo da Vincii said, learning never exhaust the mind. II believe that with the help of our battery of speakers coupled with your coopration, the purpose of this training will be attained”, said Director Centi.

Different important topics were discussed during the two-day training. On Day 1, among the topics tackled are as follows: Statutory Monetary Benefits; Family Welfare Program and Domestic Workers Act; D.O. 186-17 or the Revised Rules for the Issuance of Employment of Foreign Nationals; and Employment Relations and Type of Employees with Security of Tenure.

On the second day, topics on Occupational Safety and Helath Standards, D.O. No. 183-17 or the Administration and Enforcement of Labor Laws pursuant to Article 128 of the Labor Code and D.O. 174-17 or the Rules Implementing Article 109 of the Labor Code (Contracting/Subcontracting) were discussed.

The activity ended with a message from Assistant Regioanl Director Amable Ildefonso C. Roa who thanked all the speakers for imparting their knowledge to their colleagues. He likewise stressed the importance of learniing to achieve improvement in service delivery to clients.

“Let me thank all of you especialy our resource persons who did not hesitate to share their knowledge to their co-employees. I hope you all realize that this learning process is necessary for the ultimate benefit of the clients we are serving in the region”, ARD Roa said.

Another labor laws 101 training will be conducted for the second batch of employees on March 16-17, 2020 at the same venue. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
