1.5M emergency employment assistance to fisherfolks in Southern Leyte

Taclaban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII through its Southern Leyte Field Office (SLFO) has provided a total of P1,500,000.00 emergency employment assistance to five towns in Southern Leyte.

The said assistance under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD) was availed by some one hundred fifty beneficiaries from the municipalities of Padre Burgos, Tomas Oppus, Liloan, Limasawa and Libagon.

The workers were deployed for thirty (30) days in response to the crown-of-thorn outbreak in the coastal areas of Southern Leyte. Workers were covered with accident insurance prior to the deployment and personal protective equipment (PPEs) were likewise provided.

Ms. Marites Z. Viñas, Chief of DOLE-SLFO and Ms. Dahlia A. Gabriana, Labor and Employment Officer III, personally went to Liloan last February 21, 2020 for the payment of the workers’ wages.

Ms. Viñas congratulated the workers and the municipality for a successful implementation of TUPAD in the area.

“In behalf of our Regional Director, Yahya A. Centi, I would like to congratulate all of you for the successful implementation of our emergency employment program here in Liloan. We are happy because we are able to help in the mitigation of the possible adverse effects of this crown-of-thorn outbreak to your livelihood”, said Viñas.

Each worker received P9,450.00 each as payment for the services rendered during the thirty-day employment period. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano with reports from Marites Z. Viñas
