DOLE-RO VIII conducts Strategic Conference, gears up for 2020

City of Tacloban – In order to prepare and plan out regional deliverables for 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment – Regional Office VIII conducted a Strategic Action Conference last 21 January 2020 at DOLE Training Center, this city.

The one-day conference with the theme “Responding to the Challenges of Future of Work” was attended by heads of the provincial field offices, division chiefs and senior labor and employment officers.

Director Yahya A. Centi in his remarks informed the body that the organization needs to carefully formulate concrete plans on how to generate more productive results this 2020. He likewise emphasized about the challenges of the future of work as a new trend in the world of employment.

“Whether we like it or not, we are now in an era wherein we must know how to respond to the challenges brought by technology. If there’s a need to re-tool and learn new skills for us to get to where we want to go, then we will do so”, said Centi.

Before the 2020 Indicative Targets were shown, the 2019 Physical and Financial accomplishments were presented first for the heads of offices to know how they fare in the last year’s implementation of various programs and services.

In coming up with a plan to improve the region’s performance on the disposition of labor standards cases, Assistant Regional Director Amable Ildefonso C. Roa presented a monitoring tool by which ageing of cases will immediately be determined and will help in prompting hearing officers and program managers.

Director Centi, who recently attended the DOLE Central Office-Regional Office Consultation in Manila cascaded the different strategic actions of the different DOLE Bureaus and Program Managers.

The activity also served as a learning session as different new laws and policies were tackled such as policies on First Time Jobseekers, AEP Issuances, Service Charge WODP Guidelines, Mental Health Law and Gender-based Sexual Harassment. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
