Security guards win P1.1M labor case

TACLOBAN CITY – A labor dispute between security guards and an electric power corporation was finally settled at the Mediation-Arbitration and Legal Services Unit (MALSU) of the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. VIII, resulting to payment of monetary claims of 1.1 million pesos.

Two mandatory conferences were conducted last December 17 and 21, 2018 to hear both parties of the case which was anonymously filed. When no compliance was made even after the issuance of writ of execution to the responding party, DOLE RO VIII through its authorized sheriff conducted a levy of property at the establishment last October 11, 2019.

On January 28, 2020, the legal counsel and corporate secretary of the concerned establishment, appeared at the DOLE Office together with the thirteen (13) affected workers to settle the monetary deficiencies due to the workers and to finally close the case.

Rogelio Campo, one of the affected workers expressed his gratitude for the outcome of the case.

“We are very thankful to DOLE especially to the sheriff and his partners for helping us get the money that we deserve. We’ve been working hard for that money and thank you because finally we are able to settle everything”, Campo said.

The legal counsel also shared his thoughts about the action made by the DOLE. “DOLE is actually doing its job to help those in need. You [the workers] should continue doing your best because whatever is due to you will be given with the help of DOLE”, he said.

The settlement was done through cash payment directly to the affected workers witnessed by the entire staff of the MALSU. The workers left the office with big smiles as they were finally able to receive their hard-earned money. End/Mary Jane B. Abenoja
