Tacloban City – A total of 2,876 workers in the informal sector in Eastern Visayas will receive financial aid from the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII through its Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers #Barangay Ko/Bahay Ko Disinfection/Sanitation Project (TUPAD #BKBK).

TUPAD #BKBK is one of DOLE’s social amelioration program to mitigate the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to the workers in the informal sector such as but not limited to the underemployed, self-employed and displaced marginalized workers.

Through TUPAD #BKBK, beneficiaries identified by the local government unit will disinfect/sanitize their respective homes and vicinities for a period of ten (10) days. DOLE and the partner LGU will provide for the disinfectant solutions and cleaning materials. After the completion of the said project, each beneficiary will receive P3,250.00 each as wages for the services rendered.

As of April 6, 2020, a total of P4,150,250.00 was disbursed by DOLE-RO VIII for the payment of wages of 1,728 workers from 29 LGUs who have already been enrolled to the TUPAD #BKBK project in Region VIII. Said amount likewise covers the cost of disinfectant solutions provided by DOLE.

Regional Director Yahya A. Centi expressed his thanks to the LGUs being DOLE’s active partner in the implementation of the program.

“We are thankful to all our partner LGUs who are our accredited co-partners in implementing TUPAD #BKBK. The positive and active response from them is really important so that the needed relief will be delivered to our affected workers in the informal sector”, said Centi.

DOLE-RO VIII is currently processing remaining TUPAD proposals submitted by other LGUs. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
