DOLE-RO VIII releases P5K assistance to 1,398 COVID-19 affected workers
Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. VIII has already started the payout of P5,000.00 financial aid to COVID-19 affected workers in Eastern Visayas.
 
As of April 6, 2020, the DOLE-RO VIII has disbursed a total of P6,990,000.00 to 1,398 workers from the different provinces of the region through a money remittance center. Said number of workers are from the 112 private establishments which applied for the financial assistance under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) of DOLE per Department Order No, 209 series of 2020.
 
Beneficiaries who have already claimed their P5,000.00 expressed their thanks to DOLE. Nat Jean Cardeño-Bertos from Borongan, Eastern Samar took to facebook her message of thanks to DOLE and its hardworking staff for the assistance received by their establishment. 
 
“In behalf of the employer, employees and staff of Eastern Visayas International Montessori School, I would like to express my sincerest thanks to the people of DOLE, for the speedy action in order for us to benefit the cash assistance. We are truly grateful for your kindness. The said assistance is truly a big help as we face this crisis. Thank you very much. This is legit and hindi chismis lang”, said Bertos.
 
Regional Director Yahya A. Centi assured other private sector workers affected by the COVID-19 crisis that help is on the way for them. He also sought for understanding and patience as the office does its best to process all the applications received.
 
“We would like to assure our workers that help is on the way. We at DOLE are doing our best to process all the applications entering our system so that the financial aid will reach them. While we strive to deliver the expected assistance, I urge our workers to understand and be patient”, said Centi.
 
Centi likewise appealed to other employers to faciliate the submission of applications for CAMP assistance for the benefit of their affected workers.
 
“To our private employers, please consider the welfare of your workers and facilitate your application for the financial assistance. Let us help one another as we face this time of crisis”, Centi added.
 
CAMP is a safety net program that offers financial support to affected workers in private establishments that have adopted flexible work arrangements or temporary closure during the COVID-19 pandemic. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
