DOLE-RO8 provides P5.2-M livelihood aid to 594 IS workers in Samar

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 through its Samar Field Office (SFO) successfully awarded livelihood assistance amounting to Php 5,220,950.00 to the local government unit of Calbiga, Samar on 19 August 2020 at the municipal auditorium of the said LGU.

The livelihood funds will benefit a total of 594 informal sector workers from fourteen (14) different barangays and people’s organizations with varied group projects such as Mini Grocery, Rice Production with Rice Mill, Motor Parts & Shop, Fish Coral, Ginger Poduction, Binato Chips and Cottage Rental.

Present during the awarding ceremony were DOLE-SFO Head, Ms. Fe Norma D. Valuis, Calbiga Vice-Mayor Eva L. Castillo, PESO Manager Delia Mabansag, Major Jay B. Olarte and 2LT Patricia Ann Muesco of the 46th Infantry “Peacemakers” Battalion – Philippine Army.  The DOLE-SFO staff were also in full support during the activity.

The newly-installed Head of DOLE-SFO, Chief Valuis, was warmly welcomed by the local officials of Calbiga. In her message, Ms. Valuis emphasized that the livelihood funding assistance is God’s blessings as it brings new hope to the beneficiaries in uplifting their present economic condition through their livelihood undertakings that would provide them self-employment and additional income to support their family needs especially in these trying times. 

“In behalf of my Regional Director, Sir Yahya A. Centi, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our local chief executives here in Calbiga. To our beneficiaries, we hope that through this assistance from DOLE, you will find new source of hope in working for the betterment of your respective families’ economic conditions. I hope you will treat it as God’s blessings for you, your families and your community”, said Chief Valuis.

Chief Valuis likewise congratulated Mayor Nacario for his active and dynamic local governance and for making things happen for the advancement and life-changing opportunities for his constituents. She also challenged the beneficiaries to manage their livelihood projects very well until it becomes successful and sustainable so they would have big chances to be hailed as the Provincial/Regional Winner to DOLE’s yearly Search for the Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Project, both for the Individual and Group Category. She further challenged Mayor Nacario to aspire as Provincial Winner to this year’s Search for the Best LGU Program Partner/Livelihood Implementor.

Having received many financial grants from DOLE’s varied programs is a clear indication that the municipality of Calbiga has a strong-willed Local Chief Executive, an active PESO Manager who supervises and monitors the programs/projects efficiently and effectively and submits liquidation reports to DOLE on time.

On the part of LGU, Mayor Nacario expressed his profound thanks and gratitude to Director Yahya A. Centi and the SFO team for all the support and assistance extended to LGU – Calbiga.
