Mayor Annaliza Gonzales-Kwan graced the turnover ceremony together with Ms. Rina Vertulfo, PESO Manager and Ms. Cecil F. Alicando, Senior Labor & Employment Officer of DOLE-ESFO.

In her message, Mayor Kwan expressed her thanks to DOLE headed by Director Yahya A. Centi for never failing to provide help to her constituents especially during this time of pandemic.

“I am truly happy to see this turnover ceremony happening today. I know that these pedicab units will really make a difference in the lives of our beneficiaries. And with that I am sincerely thanking DOLE and RD Yahya A. Centi for this assistance especially in such a time like this when a lot were affected by the pandemic”, said Mayor Kwan.

Meanwhile, Ms. Aurora De los Reyes, resource speaker of the training reminded the beneficiaries on the importance of recognizing that their work as pedicab driver will give them opportunity to earn a living no matter how simple it may appear.

It was seconded by Ms. Alicando who said in her message that the pedicabs they receive will serve as their driving force or their “wheel” not just to earn a living but something to bring hope for them to surpass the challenges of every day.

Joel Tangquion, President of the PDOA expressed his gratitude in behalf of the association. He said that even though things are not going so well nowadays because of the pandemic, they have experience great relief with the pedicabs they receive from DOLE.

“I am feeling so blessed because our request for pedicab is now here. I know this will surely help us a lot as workers and breadwinners of our families. Thank you so much to DOLE and LGU Guiuan for making us feel important”, said Tangquion.

Through provision of livelihood assistance, DOLE-RO8 continues to live up to the new mantra of the department to create new opportunities and fresh hopes for the Filipino workforce. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano with reports from Cecil Alicando
