DOLE-RO8 awards winners of 2020 Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Projects

Tacloban City – Aligned with the department’s new mantra of creating opportunities, fresh hope for the Filipino workforce, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 via digital platform awarded on 02 September 2020 the regional winners of the 2020 Best DOLE-Assisted Livelihood Projects for both individual and group categories.

The Naval Pedicab Drivers Association (NAVPEDA) from LGU-Naval, Biliran emerged as the winner for the Group Category and received a plaque of recognition and cash prize of Php 50,000.00. For the Individual Category, Ms. Evangeline Esguerra from LGU-Tacloban City bested other contenders and received Php 30,000.00 aside from the plaque. 

The virtual awarding rites was graced by no less than DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III, Undersecretary Ana C. Dione of the Regional Operations Cluster and Director Karina P. Trayvilla of the Bureau of Workers with Special Concerns (BWSC).

In his keynote message, Sec. Bello congratulated all the livelihood awardees for their hardwork and dedication in growing their respective businesses.

 “I congratulate you on your successful livelihood undertakings and for reaching this far. Consider this award as something you can take pride of. That through your hardwork and dedication, we public servants are somehow assured and reminded that we are able to serve our purpose and uphold our given mandate”, said Sec. Bello.

The good secretary likewise urged them to continue serving as role models for other aspiring beneficiaries. He said, “Consider yourselves as our dear partners in demonstrating to other aspirants that they too can achieve something big out of the little help we give you.”

Meanwhile, DOLE-RO8 Director Yahya A. Centi, expressed his enormous gratitude to all the awardees as well as the local chief executives who have shown support to the 2020 Kabuhayan Awards, since the start of the search.. 

“I am honored for the support shown by our awardees especially our partner LCEs who were hands on to this undertaking. My sincere thanks to both Mayors as well as the PESO Managers and other instrumental personalities of Naval and Tacloban. Even this pandemonium cannot deter our way of giving honor to our winners and awardees”, said Director Centi. 

Aside from the regional winners, Mayor Gerard Espina of LGU-Naval and his team received a plaque of recognition for being Best LGU Implementing DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program. Mayor Espina, in his message said he will continue to support the programs and services of DOLE for he sees how beneficial it is for his constituents.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maria Chulla B. Corpuz. Labor and Employment Officer III of DOLE-Samar Field Office was awarded as the Best Performing Provincial Livelihood Focal Person.

The livelihood beneficiaries who made it to the provincial level for both group and individual categories were likewise recognized during the virtual program and received cash prizes of Php 7,000.00 and Php 5,000.00, respectively.

DOLE Kabuhayan Awards is conducted annually to give due recognition to successful DOLE-Assisted livelihood projects. If not for the COVID-19 pandemic, an awarding ceremony in the national level was supposedly held. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
