Parents of child laborers in Biliran receive food packs

Tacloban City –  In partnership with the local government unit of Culaba, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII, through its Project Angel Tree, a component of the department’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP), distributed food packs to some forty-three (43) parents of child laborers last September 30, 2020 in Culaba, Biliran.

The activity was graced by Mayor Humphrey B. Olimba and DOLE-Biliran Field Office Head, Engr. Emmanuel Y. dela Cruz.

Engr. Dela Cruz thanked the LGU-Culaba not only for sponsoring the food packs but also for being supportive to the department’s fight against any forms of child labor.

“I’d like to thank Hon. Olimba for partnering with DOLE in this Project Angel Tree activity. These food packs are really helpful for our beneficiaries especially during this time of pandemic”, said Engr. De la Cruz.

Engr. De la Cruz likewise urged the parents to take good care of their children and help them reach their goals in life.

“As a parent like you, I encourage you (parents) to continue nurturing your children and help them reach their aspirations in life. The children are the hope of our nation so let us do all we can to make their dreams into reality”, dela Cruz ended.

Meanwhile, Mayor Olimba expressed his continued commitment to support DOLE’s programs and services particularly the child labor program.

“For us in the LGU, we will do our share to prevent and eliminate child labor. Even with this little help, we ought to bring hope to our beneficiaries that they are not alone in facing this pandemic”, said Mayor Olimba. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
