P1.5-M assistance to parents of child laborers in Mondragon, N. Samar

Present to receive the funding check from DOLE-Northern Samar Field Office Chief Patria A. Bigcas was Mr. Raymund De Guia, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager of LGU-Mondragon.

With the approval of the project proposal entitled “Diversified Livelihood Project for Parents/Guardians of Child Laborers in Mondragon, Northern Samar”, the identified beneficiaries will now be able to venture into their own proposed business plans such as Sari-sari store, Rise-retailing, Food-vending, Agrivet supplies and Fish-vending.

Chief Bigcas said that one of DOLE’s ways to end child labor is through provision of livelihood opportunities to the parents or guardians of child laborers.

“By giving the parents sources of income through our livelihood program, we hope to bring a good future to the children by setting them free from the chains of child labor”, said Ms. Bigcas.

To further the department’s efforts in preventing and eliminating any forms of child labor in the country, DOLE-RO8 ensures that among its livelihood beneficiaries are the families of profiled child laborers in the region. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano with reports from Engr. Mark Louie Daza
