As COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis made disruptions to our economy, many of our people are currently struggling to make ends meet. All forms of businesses were at a standstill, many were displaced and terminated from employment. But the clamors of our people were not left unheard. Cognizant of the DOLE’s current mantra of creating opportunities and bringing hope to our people, DOLE once again placed

smiles to another batch of TUPAD workers in Maasin City, Southern Leyte. All 636 workers went home grateful to DOLE for the earning opportunity that augmented their income and which has cushioned the effects of the pandemic. The community was also benefited of the program through the disinfection done as part of the beneficiaries’ work contracts.

TUPAD under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act 2 is DOLE’s community driven program that aims to provide temporary wage employment to workers in the informal sector who were displaced or whose earnings were affected due the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers can be employed for 10 to 30 days depending on the nature of work to be performed. All 636 workers were employed to conduct disinfection/sanitation to government owned or public facilities identified by the Barangay Local Units of Maasin City for 4 hours a day in 15 days.

The program would not have been successful without the support of the local government unit of Maasin headed by it’s Local Chief Executive Hon. Mayor Nacional V. Mercado who personally graced the occasion together with City Councilor Hon. Mikhael Leonardo Mercado, PESO Manager Rey Francis Tan and the PESOMASOL President, Norman Victor Ordiz.
