DOLE Samar Field Office spearheaded by Chief LEO/Provincial Head Fe Norma D. Valuis together with her staff had successfully conducted an orientation to thirty-three (33) GIP beneficiaries of LGU-Calbayog City, under the funds of Congressman Edgar Mary Sarmiento and Mayor Ronaldo P. Aquino, amounting to P490,000.00 and P475,000.00, respectively. The activity was held on February 15, 2021 at MSS Resource Center, Brgy. Payahan, Calbayog City. 

Chief LEO Valuis briefly discussed the scope of Government Internship Program (GIP) which aims to provide young workers, particularly the poor/indigent and young workers, an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate objective of attracting the best and the brightest who wants to pursue a career government service; particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment. 

With the continued rise of unemployment rate reflecting the effects of Covid-19, this internship program is an avenue to generate jobs in the City of Calbayog amid the pandemic. The thirty-three (33) identified beneficiaries would have an additional income to support their family needs and at the same time, the program will serve as their training ground to hone their skills and talents to become part of a creative and competitive workforce in various industries and jobs in future. 

LEO II/Employment Focal Karen Joan L. Libres likewise discussed the National Skills Registration Program (NSRP) being initiated by DOLE and has the main objective of continuous nationwide skills registry through its Skills Registry System (SRS) database which aims to cover all the cities/municipalities with operating Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs). Applicants may register by filling-up the NSRP Form and by submitting the same to PESO-Calbayog City. PESO-Calbayog City headed by its PESO Manager, Ms. Purisima Sarzata will then encode the applicant profile in the Public Employment Information System (PEIS) and data becomes part of the National Skills Registry.
