DOLE assists Leyte towns with P2.1M TUPAD aid

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment through its North Leyte Field Office awarded a total of Php 2,169,375.00 TUPAD grants to the Provincial Government of Leyte on 29 March 2021. These grants will  benefit  some 445 informal sector workers from Alangalang, Tolosa, and Palo, Leyte.

Identified beneficiaries of Alangalang and Tolosa will be engaged in a 15-day community gardening in public facilities and street cleaning while TUPAD workers of Palo will conduct disinfection and sanitation. After completion of the said programs, each worker will be receiving Php 4,875.00 as payment for the services rendered. 

Leyte Governor, Hon. Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla, together with Mayor Lovely Yu of Alangalang, Vice-Mayor Erwin Ocaña of Tolosa and Mayor Frances Ann Petilla of Palo, received the funding checks from DOLE-RO8 Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena assisted by Mr. Norman L. Uyvico, Head of DOLE-NLFO and Ms. Gemma D. De la Cruz, Senior Labor and Employment Officer.

Director Jalbuena assured the Leyte Governor that DOLE will continue to work tirelessly for the good of the workers in Eastern Visayas.

“As your co-worker in the government, we assure you that we are doing all that we can for the benefit and welfare of our workers here in the region”, said Jalbuena.

TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers, for a minimum period of 10 days, but not to exceed a maximum of 30 days, depending on the nature of work to be performed.End/Norma Rae S.
