Limasawa islanders receive DOLE Kabuhayan kits

Maasin City – Some eighty-one (81) Limasawa islanders in the Province of Southern Leyte received livelihood aid worth P874,945.00 from the Department of Labor and Employment Regional 8 through its Southern Leyte Field Office last June 16, 2021 in Limasawa Island.

The projects awarded during the simple turnover ceremony were barbecue vending, mini carinderia, homemade delicacies and fishball vending.

Hon. Melchor Petracorta, Mayor of Limasawa, led the turn-over ceremony and warmly welcomed DOLE Representatives, Ms. Dahlia Gabriana, Livelihood Focal, who represented SLFO Chief Marites Z. Viñas and Ms. Lykka Labor, FNLI. 

The honorable mayor extended his heartfelt gratitude to DOLE as the provision of Kabuhayan Kits will not only enhance the livelihood of the informal workers/beneficiaries but also will boost the economy of the island being one of the most thriving and promising tourist destinations in the Province.

Mayor Petracorta highlighted that Limasawa is endowed with picturesque beaches and historic sites. He encouraged the beneficiaries to use this as an advantage for their respective livelihoods to welcome the tourists in their community.

“Ang hatag sa gobyerno ato unta gamiton ug maajo ug ampingan nga mulambo ta ug ang ekonomya sa atong isla. Mas pabor sa ato nga naa ta diris isla nga gihatagan ta ug nindot nga mga dagat unja puno pod ug kasaysayan nga mao gibisita sa mga turista”, Mayor Petracorta said.

(Please take good care of what the government gave us for the improvement of your lives and our economy. We are privileged to be in this historic island which tourists keep on visiting, so let us take advantage of it.)

Among the tools and jigs distributed to the beneficiaries include two-burner gas stoves with tanks, charcoal barbeque grill stands, steamers, casserole pots, stainless bowls, knives, thong kitchen wares, stainless ladles, cooking pans, mixing bowls, aluminum trays, pork meat, hotdogs, fishballs and kikiams.

Meanwhile, Ms. Aseo congratulated the beneficiaries and LGU Limasawa for successfully implementing the downloaded livelihood funds from DOLE. She encouraged the beneficiaries to follow the guidelines of the program and use the tools and jigs with care. End/ Lykka Labor, DOLE-SLFO
