DOLE Biliran awards P1.7M worth of livelihood aid to Kawayan workers

Naval, Biliran – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office VIII through its Biliran Field Office (BFO) awarded a total of P1,762,500.00 worth of livelihood projects to some 190 beneficiaries in the municipality of Kawayan last November 11, 2021.

Newly-installed head of the DOLE-BFO, Ms. Cristina Longjas, together with Kawayan Mayor, Hon. Rodolfo Espina, Sr. led the turnover of livelihood tools and equipment to the beneficiaries.

Forty-seven senior citizens and women workers received sewing machines amounting to P658,000.00 for the implementation of their sewing businesses. 

Meanwhile, 143 fisherfolks were given motorboat engines and fishnets, with a total cost of P1,104,500.00, to boost their current livelihood which is fishing.

Mayor Espina, in his message, thanked the DOLE for the usual support it gives to the people of Kawayan, particularly livelihood assistance which is really needed now that there is an ongoing pandemic.

Beneficiaries were seen with smiling faces as they receive and get hold of their own livelihood equipment.

Chief Longjas, in behalf of Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, congratulated the LGU-Kawayan and the beneficiaries for the assistance received. She likewise thanked Mayor Espina for the support and active collaboration with DOLE.

“We are happy to provide these livelihood grants to our beneficiaries. This will not be possible if not for the collaborative efforts of LGU-Kawayan with DOLE-BFO”, said Longjas.
