LGBTQ community in Southern Leyte thankful to DOLE’s TUPAD

Tacloban City – Some 129 members of the LGBTQ community in Southern Leyte are thankful to the TUPAD program of the Department of Labor and Employment after receiving their wages during the payout held on April 18, 2022 at Brgy. Ichon in the town of Macrohon.

DOLE Southern Leyte Field Office Head, Ms. Eden Ligaya Golong said that each beneficiary received P3,250.00 for the services rendered during the ten-day implementation of TUPAD in their municipality.

Golong likewise reminded the beneficiaries to be prudent in spending their hard-earned money.

“We are happy that we are able to help you through the TUPAD and I urge all of you to use the money for the basic needs of your respective families”, she said.

The said payout was one of a kind as some of the LBGTQ beneficiaries were generous enough and rendered a dance number, exuding a fun and festive mood for the delight of everyone in the venue.

Meanwhile, Mr. Norman Victor Ordiz, PESO Manager of the Provincial Government of Southern Leyte and President of PESO Managers Association in Eastern Visayas (PESOMAEV), expressed his message of thanks to DOLE during the event.

"Let us thank the Department of Labor and Employment for this assistance. Secretary Bello had personally reached out for this project to be funded, for the benefit of our members of LGBTQ in Southern Leyte", Ordiz said.

Beneficiaries received their wages with excitement and personally thanked the staff of DOLE and the Province of Southern Leyte. Despite the wearing of face masks, happiness among the LGBTQ members was truly evident.

The recently concluded payout showed that the TUPAD program of DOLE can be a means to achieve inclusivity, upholding the rights of everyone.

Also present to grace the activity were the DOLE-SLFO staff, Provincial PESO personnel and PESO Manager for Macrohon, Estela June Pey.

Beneficiaries were provided personal protective equipment and accident insurance coverage prior to the short-term employment.
