DOLE-8 assists Agaton victims in Abuyog

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. 8 through its Western Leyte Field Office (WLFO) has recently provided initial intervention to the municipality of Abuyog through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

DOLE-WLFO Head, Mr. Edgar B. Tabuyan, representing Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, personally turned-over the check amounting to P1,369,875.00 to Mayor Lemuel Gin K. Traya on April 18, 2022 at the Abuyog Gymnasium.

This emergency employment assistance will benefit some 281workers displaced by the typhoon Agaton which brought great damage to the town, even taking lives of many residents after a landslide occurred in one of its mountain-side barangay.

Mayor Traya sincerely thanked the DOLE as well as Congressman Carl Nicolas C. Cari of the 5th District of Leyte for the timely help extended to their needy constituents.

Beneficiaries will be receiving their wages in a payout activity tentatively scheduled on April 25, 2022.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tabuyan shared that the agency is currently seeking additional funds from its central office for another round of TUPAD program implementation which will benefit more displaced workers of Abuyog and Baybay City.
