Farmers and drivers in Northern Samar receive DOLE aid

Catarman, Northern Samar – The Department of Labor and Employment Northern Samar Field Office (DOLE-NSFO) formally awarded a startup livelihood kit amounting P992,600.00 to the San Isidro Centro Tricycle Operation Drivers and Farmers Association (SICTODFA) for their Motorcycle Spare Parts/Accessories Project last April 12, 2022 in San Isidro, Northern Samar.

Despite incessant rains due to a looming storm, 56 members of SICTODFA attended the ceremonial turn-over hosted by DOLE-NSFO through its provincial head, Virgilio A. Doroja, Jr.

During his opening message, Mr. Doroja thanked the collective efforts of the association members, the Local Government of San Isidro and its Public Employment Service Office, and the Office of Congressman Paul Daza, in making the project a reality.

“It is indeed through collaborations that made this assistance for our dear workers possible”, said Doroja.

In the same speech, Mr. Doroja encouraged the members of SICTODFA to work towards becoming a model project so they can compete for the Best Livelihood Group Category during the annual Kabuhayan Awards of the department.

He also assured the group that, if their future business performance merits it, it will be eligible for additional funding through DOLE’s livelihood enhancement program.

Norman Yaon, President of SICTODFA, expressed his appreciation for the grant and recounts his experience with DOLE-NSFO when he initially approached the office.

“Talagang nagpapasalamat ako sa DOLE kasi tinulungan kami na mabuo ang aming proposal at ngayon nga ay nagkatotoo na ang noo’y pinapangarap lang namin na negosyo”, Yaon said.

Mr. Yaon also vowed that they will exert every effort to improve and expand their business and, at the same time, inculcate discipline among members to avoid internal conflicts, a major factor that has caused many associations in the province to peter out and cease operations.

“Sa tulong ng aking mga miyembro, gagawin ko po lahat ng aking makakaya upang mapalago ang tulong na ito galing sa gobyerno”, Yaon added.

The project will greatly benefit the members SICTODFA, he adds, because they can buy items from the shop at cheaper prices or on installment basis, while at the same time serving the local and nearby markets.

SICTODFA received the grant under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood wherein DOLE-registered and LGU-accredited associations, depending on their membership size and proposals, may receive grants amounting to P1,000,000. End/Jerold C. Amago-DOLE NSFO
