Fishermen, home-based workers in Biliran get P3-M livelihood assistance

Tacloban City – The Department of Labor and Employment in Biliran has awarded livelihood starter kits worth three million pesos to 282 small-scale fishermen, skilled and home-based workers of Kawayan, Biliran last May 12, 2022 at the Kawayan Municipal grounds. 

During the simple turnover ceremony graced by Mayor Rodolfo J. Espina Sr., 232 fishermen received motorboat engines and fishing nets amounting to P2.3 million while 50 skilled and homebased workers received sewing machines that cost P700,000.

Mr. Francisco A. Segovia, Jr. DOLE-Biliran Field Office Head, on behalf of Regional Director Henry John S. Jalbuena, expressed continued commitment in bringing the programs of the department to the needy workers not only in BIliran but to the entire region.

“We at DOLE remain true to our commitment to uphold the rights and welfare of the workers not only here in Biliran but to the whole Eastern Visayas”, said Segovia.

Mayor Espina thanked DOLE for the grants and encouraged all the beneficiaries to use with care the equipment provided them.

The said beneficiaries were the second batch of livelihood grants funded by DOLE Regional Office No. 8 in 2021 under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) in partnership with the local government unit of Kawayan. Identified beneficiaries were from the twenty barangays of the 5th class municipality.
