Tacloban youth, partner employers thankful to Jobstart program

Tacloban City – Seventy-seven youth from Tacloban City graduated last May 25, 2022 from the JobStart Philippines Program of the Department of Labor and Employment in partnership with the government of Canada and Asian Development Bank.

In a graduation ceremony spearheaded by the DOLE Regional Office No. 8 and Tacloban Public Employment Service Office (PESO) on May 25, 2022 at the Robinsons North, Abucay, Tacloban City, Morris Rillon expressed heartfelt thanks as one of the beneficiaries of the 2021 implementation of JobStart in the city.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa DOLE, PESO at sa lahat ng employers na nagbigay sa amin ng chance na magkaroon ng trabaho” said Morris.

Meanwhile, Jan Patrik Abe testified how the program boosted his confidence to achieve his goal and even gave a piece of advice to other youth like him.

“You really need to get out of your comfort zone because success won’t find you, it is earned”, said Jan Patrik.

JobStart Philippines is a program of DOLE which seeks to shorten the school-to-work transition of job-seeking at-risk youth through a Full-Cycle Employment Framework. Beneficiaries were provided career coaching, life skills and technical trainings, and paid internship or work experience with private employers.

Soon after the life skill training, at least 36 beneficiaries already landed a job while 41 were placed under a Memorandum of Agreement.

Partner employers likewise gave their messages towards the end of the program and thanked the DOLE and the City of Tacloban for giving them the opportunity to take part in assisting the youth in their quest for employment.

Ms. Samantha Chan of the Chan Group of Companies said that the JobStart program enabled them to do something more relevant rather than just earning profits.

“Thank you DOLE and PESO for giving a way for our company to do something of social relevance”, Chan said.

Present during the program was DOLE-RO8 Director Henry John S.  Jalbuena who urged the beneficiaries to never stop pursuing their dreams. He commended all the graduates and recognized the partner employers as well for their cooperation.

Also in attendance were Atty. Aubrey Justimbaste, Legal Consultant of Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez, Engr. Emmanuel Y. de la Cruz, Head of DOLE North Leyte Field Office and Mr. Norman L. Uyvico, Head of Technical Support Services Division.

All the graduates received their certificates of completion and some tokens. End/Norma Rae S. Costimiano
