Project Angel Tree benefits child laborers in Northern Samar

Tacloban City – At least fifty-eight (58) child laborers from Catarman, Northern Samar benefited from the Project Angel Tree of the Department of Labor and Employment-Northern Samar Field Office held last July 19, 2022 at the Annex Building of Catarman Cathedral Parish.

The activity, in celebration of the National Nutrition Month, was graced with the presence of Mr. Virgilio A. Doroja Jr., DOLE-NSFO Head and Mr. Renato Esidera, Executive Administrator of LGU-Catarman representing Mayor Francisco Aurelio Rosales III. 

In his welcome message, Doroja underscored the commitment of DOLE in the prevention and elimination of child labor in the country. He likewise expressed gratitude to the LGU as well as the generous sponsors or “angels”. 

“We are truly thankful to LGU-Catarman and all the private establishments who joined us in this significant activity for our dear children. Without your support, this will not be realized”, said Doroja.

Dr. Blessie Dana C. Norona, Municipal Nutritionist and guest speaker of the event, highlighted the importance of nutrition among Filipino children. She likewise shared some hygiene routines which are essential for children as they reach adolescence stage.

Each child laborer, accompanied by their parents/guardians, received grocery pack, school supplies and clothing which became possible through the generosity of the “angels”, namely, LGU-Catarman, Great Buys, Baldos Electronics, 578 Emporium and Jana’s General Merchandise.
